Press Releases - 29th November 2006'Pester Power' of children now influenced by online activityResearch undertaken by cashback-shopping website GreasyPalm.co.uk shows that online activity is now influencing 'pester power' amongst children. In a survey of 1200 parents, 27% stated they have been pestered by their children for toys they have seen on the internet. This figure is even higher for the parents of 'Tweens' (children aged 9-14) with 37% having felt 'pester power' generated from the internet. A high percentage of Tween parents especially now feel the influence children bring to such purchasing decisions has been increased due to the internet - 73% of those facing 'pester power' believe they are facing more pressure now than ever directly because of the web. Neil Durrant, Marketing Director for GreasyPalm comments: "As internet security gradually improves and more children are given online access, they will naturally become exposed to an increased number of marketing messages, which Tweens, especially, are susceptible to. In addition to online marketing messages, Tweens are now under more influence from their peers with the growth of social networking, shaping their material wants quite significantly, bringing this to bear on their parent's purchasing decisions." Richard Bewley, Online Marketing Manager for TheEntertainer.com says: "There are now so many media sources which contribute to creating a top of mind awareness of the latest toys and crazes to children. Advertisers are incredibly adept both through offline and online media channels to promote and exploit awareness, and the power of the internet cannot be understated." -------------------------- Notes to editor: Research by GreasyPalm surveyed 1200 UK parents.
